Program Profile: Counseling Psychology | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I enjoy talking with people and especially like to help them if they are having a problem. I am a patient person and a lot of people have told me that I am a good listener and only give advice when asked. People feel very comfortable talking to me, and I feel comfortable with people sharing their feelings.
What I Want to Study: I want to study counseling psychology because I enjoy helping people get through difficult times. There is more to counseling psychology than having good listening skills, it requires a good solid education. Some classes that I will be taking to help me on my way into the field include introduction to psychology, abnormal psychology, and statistics.
What I Can Do In The Future: After studying counseling psychology in college, I have many options. I can use my four year degree and try to get a job assisting a psychologist or a counselor. Or, I can go further in my education and get a master’s degree. With a master’s degree and a license, I am able to provide counseling under the supervision of a psychologist or psychiatrist in various settings. Counseling psychologists generally have a Ph.D, so they can work on their own without supervision.
