Standard:
Identify personal feelings. Identify ways to express
feelings. Identify causes of stress. Identify and select appropriate behavior to
deal with specific emotional situations. Demonstrate healthy ways of dealing
with conflicts, stress, and emotions in self and others. Demonstrate knowledge
of good health habits.
Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration: 5 min.
Introduce the concept of occupational clusters. Explain that
occupations are organized into systems to make them easier to understand. The
health care cluster would include doctors, nurses, dentists, chiropractors,
etc.
Step: 2 Duration: 5 min.
Ask students to think of the adult workers in their school and
ask what these occupations have in common. Desired answer: “Helping
Children.”
Step: 3 Duration: 15
min.
Distribute the handout and have students write the occupations
previously discussed in the small circles. Then have students think of other
occupations that help children: baby sitter, doctor, nurse, recreation director,
piano teacher, etc., and have them write these occupations on their
handouts

Process the information by having students discuss the
occupations they have listed on their handouts.

Students will be assessed on their completed web.
Extension
Have students choose an occupation and conduct research in the
media center to find out more about how people in that occupation help
children.

Have some people who are in the careers discussed come in to
your class and talk about how they help children.

Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can
be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in
classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC
standards. Below are suggested modifications correlated to the procedures of
