Describe what can be learned from making mistakes. Identify and assess problems
that interfere with attaining goals. Identify strategies used in solving
problems. Identify alternatives in decision making situations. Describe how
personal beliefs and attitudes effect decision making. Describe how decisions
affect self and others.
Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration:
Write different situations on slips of paper (e.g., you are
lost in a department store, you lost your mother’s bracelet, your best friend is
mad at you). Place the slips in the hat.
Step:
2 Duration: 2 min.
Have students form small groups.
Step: 3 Duration: 15 min.
Have each group draw a situation card and identify all the
alternatives they can think of to solve the problem. Have students discuss the
alternative reactions and select the one they think would be the best solution
to their particular situation.
Step:
4 Duration: 10 min.
Once decided, have each group describe its situation, give the
alternatives they generated, and identify the alternative they selected and
why.

Have students role-play the situation and present their play
to the class.

Repeat the activity, giving students the chance to form
different groups and choose another situation.
