Topic: Awareness of the relationship between work and learning.
Standard: Identify different types of work, both paid and unpaid. Describe the importance of preparing for occupations. Demonstrate effective study and information-seeking habits. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of practice, effort, and learning. Describe how current learning relates to work. Describe how one’s role as a student is like that of an adult worker.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 10 min.
Distribute the chart and have students complete it.

Description: Print and copy for each student.

Step:  2 Duration: 5 min.
Have each student tally their results and explain to them what the ratings mean.

Step:  3 Duration: 10 min.
Have students form groups and discuss each question and their rating. Have students discuss ways to help improve their scores.

Step:  4 Duration: 
Review evaluations with individual students for additional feedback.

Students' participation in the activity will be evaluated.
Extension
Administer the rating chart at the beginning of a unit and repeat at the conclusion of at least four units of studying. Discuss any changes that have occurred.
Remediation
Have students write a paragraph about how they will improve their study habits.
