Identify the working conditions of occupations (e.g., , inside/outside, hazardous). Describe ways in which self-employment differs from working for others. Describe how parents, relatives, adult friends, and neighbors can provide career information.

Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 10 min.
Have students as help you list adult school workers. Once all are listed, divide students into pairs and have them choose a school worker to interview.

Step:  2 Duration: 20 min.
Discuss the interviewing process and the kind of information they are seeking. Help student pairs create interview questions. Students may want to interview parents or other adults about their jobs. Suggested questions: How long have you been a(n)_________? How did you prepare to become a(n)___________? What kind of training does a(n)____________need? What have you learned from being a(n)_____________? What is the best thing about being a(n)__________? What did you do before you became a(n) _______________?

Extension
Ask students to interview people from other careers within the community for homework. Then ask students to share what they have learned with the class.
