Procedures/Activities

Have students list the people who help them each day (e.g., parents, grocer, teacher, bus driver). Explain that work results in two things: products and services. Work that helps us by making things for us deals with products. Work that helps us by doing things for us deals with services. Have students draw a picture of someone working in one of the occupations they named. Allow time for student discussion of art work. a. Ask students to determine if their pictures represent service or goods workers. How can they tell? b. Ask students if the workers in their pictures can be male or female. Discuss work done by male and female workers.
