Procedures/Activities

Step:  1 Duration: 5 min.
Have students imagine that they are going through a typical day 75 years ago. Help them to imagine by describing the country: no cars or highways, long skirts, horse and buggies, making food from scratch. Afterward, have them discuss (and list, if desired) the changes between then and now because of scientific achievements.

Step:  2 Duration: 15 min.
Now tell them that they will be imagining the future. Have them figure out what the year and their ages will be in 20 years. Imagine their town and their state. How will they change in 20 years? Imagine residents, businesses, government, laws, etc. Imagine their country and world. What changes will take place there? Help them to imagine by mentioning changes in transportation, clothing styles, housing, schools, the economic condition, the role of the government, etc.

Step:  3 Duration: 30 min.
Now have students imagine and discuss careers of the future. What tools will they need? What skills will they need? Once they have discussed future careers, have them depict the scenes they’ve imagined.
